Create an Interactive Photo Slideshow

I was browsing some code looking for a way for me to create an HTML5 slideshow that would work in Canvas, when I stumbled upon this fantastic slideshow generator:

https://imageslidermaker.com/v2

This simple* webkit has so much functionality and capability, and it’s completely free! You can adjust the pictures, the dimensions, the types and shapes of the navigation buttons, the captions - including placement, font, look, and size… It’s quite a good tool and with only a little manipulation and fuss we can cleanly embed it onto our Canvas pages.

* When I say “simple”, I am referring to how easy it is to use. It took a level of incredible skill for the amazing developer to create that for you and me

Here are a couple of examples of this slideshow in action:

I will reiterate my caveats about using this in Canvas. It is not inherently accessible, so I would not use this slideshow to showcase any content that is visually vital to the course content. It’s merely a decorative course element. Also, this likely will not look good on both mobile and large displays. Anything that looks good on a 27" monitor will not scale down well to a mobile device. And if you design for mobile then I don’t know if it will be effective on a large screen. Final note is that it is challenging to edit. It will involve redownloading the zip, modifying the html file, uploading, and embedding.

But this definitely is a fun interaction that can help you add life to your course pages. It would be good on something like a resource center or orientation page.

Have fun!
